Reactions Trail Shehu Sani’s Tweet On Insults Hurled At Cardinal Onaiyekan Over Remarks On Election

A short while ago, Senator Shehu Sani, a former lawmaker in Kaduna, utilized his Twitter account to condemn individuals who have been hurling insults at Archbishop John Cardinal Onaiyekan, a highly respected Christian clergyman. Onaiyekan had suggested that the May 29 inauguration of Tinubu should be postponed until the court concludes its hearing on petitions challenging his victory in the recently concluded presidential election, while appearing on a Channels TV interview on Thursday.

The Archbishop Emeritus of the Abuja Catholic Archdiocese had argued that it “made no sense” to swear in Tinubu as President while the courts were still deliberating on petitions filed against him. Not surprisingly, the clergyman’s statements were met with harsh criticism from the All Progressives Congress (APC) spokespersons and many of its supporters on social media.

Nevertheless, Senator Shehu Sani expressed his displeasure at the insults directed towards the clergyman for sharing his views, in response to the backlash via his Twitter account. He wrote, “I believed that only Peter’s supporters harassed individuals for their opinions until I read the toxic remarks against John Onaiyekan. Those who preach tolerance should exercise tolerance.”

Interestingly, the tweet from the former lawmaker has provoked diverse responses from Nigerians online, with many taking to the comments section to voice their opinions. Below are some screenshots of their reactions:
