Melaye’s victory sparks ‘controversy’ as 2 ex-govs, PDP chieftains reportedly hint defection to APC

The emergence of Senator Dino Melaye as the flagbearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the off-cycle gubernatorial election in Kogi state is causing a crisis.

According to the Daily Independent, it has been reported that Senator Melaye’s emergence as a candidate has caused two ex-deputy governors, 100 members, and other top chieftains of the PDP to declare their intention to leave the party.

According to reports, the PDP primaries that resulted in Senator Melaye’s victory were deemed fraudulent due to confirmed delegate manipulation.

In response to this development, Yomi Awoniyi, the former deputy governor of Kogi state, commented:

“We have copies of the delegates list for the twenty-one local government areas and the entire two hundred thirty-nine wards across the state supported by the state’s PDP executives.”

“It’s trite to say that while the party sets up guidelines for due process and the process is adhered to, it’s unreasonable to have the same party jeopardising the same process by importing strange names into the delegates list.”

“There will be serious and grave consequences for the PDP if the approved delegates list isn’t used.”

Dr. Bolufemi, a governorship aspirant under the PDP, has called for the cancellation of the entire process due to the incorrect use of the delegate list.

He noted that severe consequences would result if it was confirmed that the delegate list had been tampered with.

The PDP senatorial candidate for Kogi West, Tajudeen Yusuf, stated that the process was fraudulent.

According to Daily Independent publication, two former governors, who were not named, labelled the PDP primary election as fraudulent.

The Senator Melaye’s personality was described as being a combination of scandals and controversies.

According to Punch’s report: “When Melaye is mentioned, controversies jump out. In a sane society, this man should be in jail. He lacks the morals, decency, and qualities to hold public offices,” a former governor who doesn’t want to be revealed said.

“An uncultured character, he earned national honours in breaking down and collapsing on the streets of Abuja. Dino is a bad example to the younger generation.”

It should be noted that Senator Dino Melaye of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is currently a top contender for the position of governor of Kogi State.

On Sunday, April 16, Dino emerged as the winner of the PDP guber primaries in Kogi state, displaying pragmatism and political sagacity.

Senator Dino and Alhaji Usman Ododo of the All Progressive Congress (APC) will compete for the ultimate seat at Lord Lugard’s House.
