Some Youths Burnt Down My Mortuary & My Car After Accusing Me Of Selling Body Parts Of Their Corpse- Man

A Nigerian man who owns a mortuary in a community in Abia state narrated to BBC News how some youths of the community where his mortuary is located burnt down his mortuary and his car. The man said that before the attack, a particular family accused him of selling some of the body parts of their corpse.

The man also said that the accusation against him is false, he has never done something like that to anyone’s corpse since he started working in the mortuary. The family that owns the corpse accused him after they saw a hole in the body of their corpse.

The man on the other hand said that the reason for the hole on the body was that rats do chew dead bodies in the mortuary. He has worked in the mortuary for many years, and he knows that rats do chew corpses, that’s why they buy cats and keep them in the mortuary sometimes. He also said that if he’d known that there was a hole in the corpse, he would have sealed it. So after the accusation, some youths invaded his mortuary and burnt it down, they also burnt down his car. If not for the intervention of the police, his child would have been attacked, but the police saved him from the angry mobs.

He said that his work is only to preserve corpses in his mortuary and doesn’t intend to sell body parts, and he’s never done that before. His properties were destroyed after a false accusation was laid on him, the man said.
