Kilifi Governor Gideon Maitha Mung’aro on Sunday announced the death of his father, Gideon Baya Mung’aro Senior.
The death coincided with Father’s Day, a moment when everyone is obligated to celebrate their fathers.
The Governor announced the sad news in an emotional statement on social media, which recounted the highs and lows of their life together.
“Today, on Father’s Day, I have lost my father Gideon Baya Mung’aro Senior,” Mung’aro said.
He further expressed his gratitude to friends and family for the steady support during this difficult time, even as he acknowledged the pain of losing his father.
“It is a deeply painful moment, but I am truly grateful for the love, support and prayers from family, friends and all who have reached out,” he said.
“Your kindness is helping us through this difficult time. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.”
Mombasa Governor Abdullswamad Sherrif Nassir has extended his condolences to Governor Mung’aro’s family, saying the county government and the people of Mombasa are in solidarity with them.
“It is with great sorrow that we have learned of the passing of your beloved father, Gideon Baya Mung’aro Senior,” Nassir stated.
He described Mzee Mung’aro as a respected elder and leader who served the greater Gede location with distinction and left behind a legacy of honour, service and community leadership.
“On behalf of the Mombasa people, I extend our deepest sympathies to you and the entire Mung’aro family,” Nassir said.
Nassir explained that the loss of a parent is immeasurable and promised to stand with Mung’aro in this moment of profound grief.
Additionally, he promised to join the people of Kilifi in celebrating the life of Mzee Mung’aro Senior, saying that the values of Mzee Mung’aro on leadership will forever be echoed in the country at large.
