Michael Olunga Leaves Al-Duhail as Club’s All-Time Top Scorer

Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga has officially ended his four-and-a-half-year stint with Qatari side Al-Duhail SC, closing a prolific chapter that saw him become the club’s all-time top scorer.

Olunga, who joined the Qatari outfit in 2021 on a three-season deal reportedly worth €6 million, announced he will leave Red Knights at the end of the current season in June through a social media post on Thursday, May 29, 2025.

The 30-year-old striker exits Al-Duhail after an underwhelming 2024/25 season in which the club failed to secure any silverware. Despite the trophyless campaign, Olunga cemented his legacy as a club legend by netting 130 goals, a feat that earned him the status of Al-Duhail’s historic top scorer.

“Veni, Vidi, Vici. Thank you for everything, Al Duhail,” Olunga wrote on X. “Leaving as all-time goal scorer, 130 goals and memories. Thank you for the trust.”

Al-Duhail released an emotional tribute, officially confirming his departure and acknowledging his immense contribution to the team.

“The management of Al-Duhail Sports Club extends its gratitude and appreciation to Kenyan striker Michael Olunga the club’s historical goal scorer for what he has given outstanding contribution and exceptional performance during his career with the first team,” the club said in a statement.

The club praised Olunga not only for his goal-scoring prowess but also for his exemplary discipline and leadership on and off the field.

“Olunga has been an example of professionalism and discipline on and off the pitch, he has contributed significantly to the club’s many achievements and championships, and has also left a clear mark on the club’s history through his decisive goals and contributions,” the statement read.

Al-Duhail also wished Olunga the very best in his next career move and emphasized that he will always remain part of the club’s family.

“The Al-Duhail Club family wishes Michael Olunga all the best in his next stop and assures the club’s doors will remain open to the historic flood scorer. Thank you Olunga.. You will always be an integral part of the Duhail family.”

During his tenure, Olunga helped Al-Duhail clinch several domestic titles and was a consistent performer in the AFC Champions League. His departure marks the end of a successful spell that not only elevated his career but also solidified his reputation as one of the finest African strikers in the Middle East.

Before joining Al-Duhail, Olunga had stints with Kashiwa Reysol in Japan, Girona in Spain’s La Liga, and Guizhou Zhicheng in China. He also played locally for Gor Mahia, Tusker, and Thika United in the Kenyan Premier League.

As speculation grows over his next move, fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see where Olunga’s goal-scoring journey leads next.
