Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has urged police officers to stop obeying unlawful orders and carrying out illegal instructions.
According to former second-in-command, it is very easy for President William Ruto to betray someone.
“Police Officers, don’t obey unlawful orders. Don’t carry out illegal instructions. I am an old man. I have been Ruto’s deputy, it only takes ‘one touch’ for him to betray you,” Rigathi Gachagua said.
These remarks comes amid public outcry and demand for justice following the death of Albert Ojwang in police custody.
Ojwang was arrested in Homa Bay by DCI officers over a post he made on social media. He was taken to Nairobi Central Police Station where, according to police, he sustained head injuries after hitting a cell wall. He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
However, the autopsy findings revealed that Ojwang died of severe head injuries which may have been caused by assault, contradicting police claims.
IG Douglas Kanja revealed that DIG Eliud Lagat was the complainant behind Ojwang’s arrest.
