London, Nakuru: The family of Daniel Nderitu, who was shot down by the police, has painfully demanded justice amid preparations for his burial.
What happened to Daniel Nderitu?
The death of the young man sparked unrest as residents protested against the alleged shooting by police.
The 47-year-old was reportedly shot dead by police during an altercation with some residents in the neighbourhood, which outraged the local community.
When Nderitu’s mother learned of her son’s death, she was inconsolable. She saw his lifeless body at the Nakuru County Referral and Teaching Hospital (NCRTH) and wondered why things escalated so quickly.
“They came and arrested a young boy, accusing him of possessing bhang. They shot three bullets into the air, then aimed one at the crowd, and that’s where they hit our Dan,” a relative alleged.

He had been a casual worker, earning wages to feed his four children. “Why is the government doing this to us? We have the right to live in this county; we were born here,” the relative added.
What happened to Dan’s family?
Another family member shared that Dan was married with four children, but his wife had passed away four years ago.
“He was the only one taking care of the children, and now the family will have to take up that burden,” said his brother.
The police kept a close watch throughout the day to prevent further demonstrations. Even boda bodas were hesitant to carry passengers, as the men in the area declared that the day was solely for mourning.
