Labour and Social Protection Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua has criticized Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, accusing him of of lowering his political stature by aligning with Rigathi Gachagua.
Speaking at a public event on Sunday, June 8, 2025, Mutua questioned Kalonzo’s political judgment, suggesting that the veteran leader is harming his own stature by associating with figures he described as divisive and ineffective.
“Kalonzo is big. He should not be following Gachagua. He is playing small politics, and that is not good for the Kamba nation,” Mutua declared.
Mutua, who once stood alongside Kalonzo as a political ally before charting his own course, did not hold back. He challenged Kalonzo’s long tenure in politics and government, pressing him to show real development in the Ukambani region.
“For 45 years Kalonzo has been in politics and government. Where are the roads in Ukambani? Where are the tarmacked roads? There is nothing!” Mutua stated.
He further criticized Kalonzo’s close ties with Gachagua, arguing that such alliances weaken his image as a national leader and fail to serve the interests of the Kamba community. Mutua urged Kalonzo to rethink his strategy, insisting that true leadership focuses on development, not political theatrics.
“We impeached Gachagua because we didn’t want him. He does not represent our vision for this country,” Mutua said.
Mutua accused Kalonzo of misreading the national mood, noting that Kenyans, especially in Ukambani, are tired of empty political promises.
“Our people are tired of empty promises. They want water, roads, and jobs, not leaders who are always waiting for endorsement or playing second fiddle,” Mutua emphasized.
He called on the Kamba community to reject what he termed “recycled leadership” and instead back leaders with a proven development record and a visionary outlook.
At the same time, CS Mutua rallied support for the broad-based government as the practical path forward to address the country’s long-standing challenges. He praised President William Ruto for his deliberate efforts to uplift communities economically.
“President Ruto is intentional towards alleviating the economic status of our people. I will support any initiative that is aimed at empowering our people,” Mutua affirmed.
