Outrage as Protesters Storm Kenya Police HQ, Chants Overnight

Tension is growing outside Vigilance House, the headquarters of the Kenya Police in Nairobi, as protesters continue to camp outside demanding justice for the late blogger Albert Ojwang Omondi.

The protests, which began earlier in the day, have now stretched into the night, with determined activists refusing to leave until their demands are met. The main call from the crowd is clear: they want Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Eliud Lagat to resign.

Ojwang’s death has caused national outrage after it was revealed that he was killed by strangulation and torture.

This information came to light following an autopsy by forensic pathologists, which completely contradicted the earlier police report. Police had claimed that Ojwang died after hitting his head on the wall of a police cell, a version now widely discredited.

The protests were sparked by reports that Ojwang had been targeted after posting a controversial tweet about DIG Lagat. Activists and members of the public now accuse the police of trying to cover up the killing.

“We want answers, and we want them now,” one protester shouted.

“Albert was killed for speaking the truth. Lagat must go,” added another who were chanting outside Vigilante House.

With the growing number of demonstrators outside Vigilance House, pressure is mounting on senior police leaders and the government to respond. So far, DIG Lagat has not publicly commented on the calls for his resignation.
