There was unexpected drama at the Milimani Law Courts after a suspect appeared before the court while totally intoxicated

Sharon Oparanya was today arrested while allegedly driving while drunk. She was then presented before Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Martha Nanzushi to face the charges

However, drama ensued in court after the seemingly intoxicated woman failed to meet the soberness requirement of the court.

Senior principal magistrate Martha Nanzushi noted Sharon Oparanya was too inebriated to face charges before she postponed the hearing.

The female suspect has since been detained.

Drunk driving

It is illegal in Kenya and many parts of the world to drive on public roads while drunk. Drunk driving has been one of the many causes of endless accidents on our roads. A motorist who drives while drunk puts his or her life in danger and those of other road users.

According to the laws of Kenya, a driver convicted of drink-driving can be jailed for two years or slapped with a fine of Sh100,000.
