Daniel Owira popular as “Otongolo” became an overnight success and has never turned back since then.Daniel Owira shot to fame by telling the narrative of a young man who travelled to Nairobi in search of otonglo (money).Daniel Owira made the narrative while in high school before President Kenyatta and left him and the audience bursting in laughter.The performance earned Owira the stage name “Otongolo” and a full scholarship from President Kenyatta.This was during Kenyatta’s first term as president.
The scholarship he got from the Kenyatta Trust, an organisation founded by President Uhuru Kenyatta covered his education all the way to university.Owira scored a C+ in the 2015 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examination and joined the Multimedia University.The trust paid all his fees at Multimedia University (MMU) and gave him a monthly stipend for accommodation, food and other expenses.It also supported his mother’s business.This renders the question on where is Otongolo currently?
Daniel Owira after graduation no longer gets money from Kenyatta Trust.He now has to use the knowledge he gained and his talents to make his own money.Daniel Owira worked as an intern with Oakwood Brand Consulting in Nairobi.Daniel Owira has in recent days been working as a professional photographer.Owira has been spotted among President Kenyatta’s photography team.Check out recent pictures of Owira in his work.
