The General Legal Council has reportedly given the Ghana Law Society, also known as the Law Society of Ghana, accreditation to issue all types of professional licences pertaining to the practice of law in the country.

According to a report by lawplatform.online, the Ghana Law Society now has the accreditation to facilitate the issuance of practising, chamber and pupillage licences, a role previously reserved for only the Ghana Bar Association.

The report indicated that the Executive Council of the Ghana Law Society (GLS) would address a media conference on Monday, January 26, 2026, to apprise the public of their accreditation.

The latest report comes after leaders of the Ghana Law Society visited the Chief Justice, Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, to formally express their intention to seek recognition and licensing from the General Legal Council (GLC).

The Chief Justice welcomed this move as a step towards ensuring all practising lawyers are licensed.

The association, together with the South Dayi legislator, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, filed a suit at the Supreme Court, seeking that the court should rule that the mention of the “Ghana Bar Association” in the 1992 Constitution of Ghana does not only refer to the GBA but all other law associations in the country.
