Dr. K.K. Sarpong, former Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), has emphasised the importance of ensuring that economic gains under President John Mahama’s administration are sustainable.
Speaking on Channel One TV’s Face to Face with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Tuesday, January 20, Dr. Sarpong noted that while early indicators such as exchange rates, interest rates, and inflation show promise, it is too soon to make definitive judgments.
“I think it’s too early. But there are obviously good signs of exchange rate, interest rate, and inflation. One must be honest. I’ve made a point before, how sustainable would this be?” he said.
He added that assessing the economy requires consideration of multiple factors and changing conditions.
“Those who are managing, whether economic, social, or political, aren’t static. You get things changing, there’s fluidity in the situation. To me, an assessment would be specific to a certain time frame and the variables that present themselves. So, unless I do a deeper dive, I don’t think I’ll be in a position to say much,” Dr. Sarpong explained.
