Frederick Opare Ansah is a campaign strategist for Dr Bawumia
A campaign strategist for former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and former Member of Parliament for Suhum, Frederick Opare Ansah, has questioned the sincerity, credibility and political judgment of former Assin Central MP and NPP presidential aspirant Kennedy Agyapong.
Opare Ansah has, therefore, called on the New Patriotic Party’s Election Management Committee to urgently summon and caution Agyapong over his conduct, warning that failure to do so would compel them to advise Dr Bawumia not to attend the peace pact meeting scheduled for tomorrow ahead of the party’s January 31 presidential primaries.
Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem morning show with host Omanhene Kwabena Asante, the former legislator described Kennedy Agyapong’s conduct as reckless, divisive and injurious to party unity.
According to him, the notoriety Agyapong has gained for spreading falsehoods and hurling insults at party members must be brought to an end, particularly at a critical moment when the NPP is preparing for its internal elections.
He stressed that for the peace pact to serve its intended purpose, all aspirants must demonstrate discipline and respect, insisting that Kennedy Agyapong must first be called to order.
Opare Ansah’s comments follow a viral video in which Kennedy Agyapong launched scathing attacks on Dr Bawumia, accusing him of lying and distorting historical facts surrounding why the late Professor Adu Boahen did not contest the 1996 presidential election as the NPP’s candidate.
In the video, Agyapong alleged that Dr Bawumia falsely told party delegates that Prof Adu Boahen was not retained due to ill health, repeatedly branding the former vice president a “serial liar.”
However, it later emerged that Dr Bawumia never made such a statement.
The comment was rather made by the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.
Opare Ansah described Agyapong’s conduct as a worrying display of poor judgment and lack of due diligence, qualities he said are indispensable for anyone seeking to lead the nation as President.
To support his claims, Opare Ansah cited several instances which, in his view, expose a pattern of falsehoods and inconsistencies on the part of the former Assin Central MP.
He noted that Kennedy Agyapong made claims of donating US$3 million to the NPP, which were later disputed by former party executives, and falsely suggested that Dr Bawumia failed to campaign in Adentan during the 2024 elections, a claim later contradicted by available evidence.
Opare Ansah also accused Agyapong of making misleading claims about ministerial appointments from the Ashanti Region, only to later reverse himself regarding figures such as Cecilia Dapaah.
He further cited comments involving Adwoa Safo and Frema Opare, which he said were later publicly refuted, as well as contradictory claims about owning numerous businesses while accusing the Ghana Revenue Authority of frustrating those same businesses.
According to him, Agyapong has also made inconsistent statements about owning hundreds of houses, while at other times pointing to properties belonging to others in an attempt to portray himself as modest.
Opare Ansah further recalled derogatory remarks attributed to Agyapong against Christians, which were later followed by attempts to court their support, as well as public statements that appeared to pitch religious groups against each other.
He also questioned Agyapong’s loyalty to the New Patriotic Party, citing instances where he allegedly insulted party supporters, expressed admiration for Kwame Nkrumah over the Danquah–Busia–Dombo tradition, and was seen fraternising with members of the opposition National Democratic Congress.
He concluded by urging NPP delegates to exercise discernment and reject what he described as a loose cannon, warning that such a candidate could undermine party cohesion and weaken the NPP’s prospects in the 2028 general elections.
