The Nigerian music industry is mourning the loss of Afeez Adeshina, known professionally as Destiny Boy.

Naija News reports that the Afrobeats singer was 22 years old.

Reports of his death began to circulate on Sunday, January 18, 2026, after a social media update from a prominent journalist, Temilola Sobola.

Announcing the singer’s demise, Sobola wrote, “Singer Destiny Boy has passed away. May his soul Rest In Peace🕊️.”

Details surrounding the cause of Destiny Boy’s death have not been confirmed.

Neither his family nor his management team has released an official statement to explain what led to his passing.

Destiny Boy became popular at a very young age and built a name for himself in the Nigerian music scene with his street-pop style.

He began attracting attention after a 2019 version of Davido’s hit “If” done in a Fuji style went viral online.

This helped him grow a fan base and led to more covers of songs by Nigerian stars such as Tekno, 2 Baba (2Baba), 9ice, and Small Doctor.

In November 2024, reports revealed that he had welcomed his first child at the age of 20.

Earlier in March 2024, the singer was also in the news after reports emerged that he proposed to his partner with a diamond ring believed to be worth millions of naira.

Following the news of his reported death, many fans, fellow artistes, and social media users have shared messages of grief and remembrance online.
