In Ghana’s Ashanti Region, about 14 female students from JoyJeff Academy were reportedly listed as boys in the records of the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS). As a result, some girls may have been assigned to schools lower on their priority lists or to institutions that did not match the girls’ schools they had chosen, MyJoyOnline reports.
Impact on placement
JoyJeff Academy principal Stephen Osei Asare said that the affected female students had aggregate scores of 11 to 12 points. In his view, such results gave them sufficient chances of admission to their second or third chosen institution.
According to Asare, the change in gender data affected the placement results, and some of the girls were sent to boys’ schools. He stressed that many female students had deliberately chosen all-girls senior high schools.

Appeal to the resolution center
Asare said that he had been at the resolution center at Kumasi Technical Institute since the morning, trying to have these cases reviewed. According to him, center staff first asked him to print the placement slips of all affected female students.
The principal linked some of the difficulties to the limited registration period and shortcomings in the system. In his view, schools did not have enough time to verify student data before the final placement results were released.
The incident occurred on the third day after the CSSPS results were published. Parents and candidates continue to visit the center, reporting unreviewed placement results, incorrect student data, and difficulties gaining admission to their preferred schools.
