Accra, Aug. 12, GNA – Women in Tech Ghana has launched the Green Tech Campaign 2026 to promote environmental sustainability through green technology, circularity, and collective action.
The campaign, themed: “Building a Sustainable Ghana through Green Technology, Circularity and Collective Action,” seeks to address environmental challenges while equipping women, young people, and communities with green and digital skills.
Mrs Luvina Sandra Atsu, Country Director of Women in Tech Ghana, said the initiative marked the beginning of a national movement to promote sustainable development through innovation and technology.
She said Ghana continued to face environmental challenges, including indiscriminate waste disposal, plastic pollution, periodic flooding, and increasing energy demand, while awareness of circular economy principles remained low.
Mrs Atsu said Women in Tech Ghana was committed to bridging that knowledge gap by working with stakeholders to promote practical sustainability and create economic opportunities through green innovation.
She said the campaign was anchored on six pillars: green technology, circularity, practical sustainability, behaviour change, future skills, and long-term impact.
According to her, the initiative would move beyond awareness creation to practical action by organising virtual training for 200 participants in green jobs and future skills, engaging more than 1,000 traders in waste-sorting and plastic-free campaigns, and equipping 500 students with waste management and digital skills through the Green School Circularity Challenge.
She added that the campaign would also implement a circular-to-value demonstration project and provide solar-powered electricity to schools without reliable access to power.
Mrs Atsu called on corporate organisations, development partners, and investors to support the initiative through strategic partnerships, stressing that investing in the campaign was an investment in Ghana’s sustainable future.
She reiterated Women in Tech Ghana’s commitment to empowering five million women and girls in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) by 2030 and urged Ghanaians to embrace environmentally responsible practices.
Mrs Gloria Opoku Anti, Executive Director of Zoomlion Ghana Limited, commended Women in Tech Ghana for launching what she described as a timely and transformative initiative.
She said the campaign went beyond awareness of creation to promote sustainable lifestyles, green entrepreneurship, environmental responsibility, and partnerships for national development.
Mrs Anti observed that Ghana continued to grapple with rapid urbanisation, increasing waste generation, plastic pollution, climate change, and the unsustainable use of natural resources, making innovation critical to addressing environmental challenges.
She highlighted the role of technologies such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, Geographic Information Systems, renewable energy, smart waste management systems, and advanced recycling technologies in improving environmental sustainability, creating jobs, and supporting inclusive economic growth.
Mrs Anti urged government, the private sector, educational institutions, development partners, and local communities to work together to advance circular economy solutions and green innovation.
She encouraged women and girls to embrace technology as a tool for solving real-world problems and pledged Zoomlion Ghana’s continued support for initiatives that promote environmental sustainability and national development.
