Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has announced that the ultramodern VIP Lounge project at the Accra International Airport will be completed and handed over by the end of 2026.

Ablakwa made this known after inspecting ongoing works on the project on Friday, September 4, 2026, and expressed satisfaction with the progress and quality of execution.

He said the project is being delivered without the use of taxpayer funds, with its financing structured as a corporate social responsibility initiative involving local Ghanaian businesses.

According to him, the businesses release funds directly to local contractors of their choice working on the VIP Lounge, while the Foreign Ministry’s Estate Bureau supervises the project to ensure that the required standards are met.
Ablakwa said the arrangement has enabled the project to proceed without relying on public funds or conventional public procurement.

He described the project as an example of how collaboration with local businesses can support the delivery of major infrastructure without placing a financial burden on the taxpayer.

“This project is a great symbol of what can be achieved without public funds and public procurement,”  Ablakwa said.
