Three institutions competing in the eighth edition of the Tertiary Business Sense Challenge (TBSC) have paid a courtesy visit to PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Ghana ahead of tomorrow’s national final.
Representatives of the University of Ghana (UG), University of Cape Coast (UCC) and Accra Technical University (ATU) were accompanied by Graphic Communications Group Ltd (GCGL) on the visit.
The visit aimed to strengthen the relationship between GCGL, organiser of the annual quiz contest, and PwC, to allow PwC, a leading sponsor for the TBSC, to engage with the finalists ahead of the competition’s climax on Saturday.
UCC, University of Ghana and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) will meet in tomorrow’s final slated for Zenith University College in Accra at 1 p.m.
The GCGL delegation was led by its Director of Marketing, Franklin Sowa, and included the Editor of the Graphic Business, Suleiman Mustapha; the TBSC Coordinator, Stella Korkor Logosu; acting Corporate Communications Manager, Mavis Kyerewaa Boateng; Assistant Advertising/Sales Manager, Frimpomaah Asiamah, and Quizmaster, Alhassan Yusif Trawule.
PwC hosted the delegation through Partner, Abeku Gyan-Quansah, and Assurance Leader, George Arhin.
Both companies also used the visit to reaffirm their five-year partnership and commitment to the TBSC as a platform to identify, develop and connect talented tertiary students with professional opportunities.
Speaking during the visit, Mr Gyan-Quansah said the firm’s relationship with the TBSC went beyond sponsorship, adding that the competition had provided PwC an opportunity to identify and engage talented young people.
He said some former TBSC participants had subsequently joined PwC, with some progressing to managerial positions.
Mr Gyan-Quansah added that PwC had prepared opportunities for this year’s eventual winners, including training and career opportunities, with successful candidates potentially joining the firm through its recruitment process.
“You should continue to develop yourselves and do not limit your ambitions to the immediate environment,” he urged the finalists.
Merit
The Assurance Leader, George Arhin, congratulated the three universities on their performance so far, describing their achievement as a reflection of their hard work, dedication and commitment.
He also encouraged competing students to see the competition as a stepping stone to their professional careers.
“Your competence will get you off the ground, it will get you the job, it will bring you here, it will get you to the final.
But it is your character that will sustain you and take you to the next level,” he said.
Long-term value
For his part, the Director of Marketing of GCGL, Mr Sowa, said the visit formed part of the broader relationship between GCGL and PwC.
He also encouraged the finalists to take advantage of the opportunities created through the competition.
“Do not simply view the TBSC as an event, but as a process that could open doors to professional development, networking and career opportunities,” he said.
The eighth edition of the TBSC will test tertiary students’ knowledge on business, finance and economics.
