Amman, Aug. 26 (Petra) — The Jordan Chamber of Commerce (JCC) and a
Kenyan economic delegation on Wednesday discussed ways to strengthen
economic and trade ties, expand business-to-business contacts and
explore new trade and investment partnerships.
The meeting brought together Kenyan business leaders and
representatives from the food, services, consulting, health,
pharmaceutical, medical supplies, construction and building materials
sectors, alongside with Jordanian Economic Counselor at the Jordanian
Embassy in Nairobi Maram Makhamreh, according to a chamber statement.
Jordanian business owners and representatives from companies
operating in the targeted sectors also attended the discussions at
the JCC’s headquarters to explore direct cooperation with their
Kenyan counterparts.
Talking at the meeting, Jamal Amro, the JCC’s representative of
Foodstuff Sector, called for capitalizing on available opportunities
to boost bilateral trade and establish direct partnerships between
Jordanian and Kenyan companies, particularly in food industries.
He said Jordan’s food sector has “extensive” capabilities and
expertise and offers “high-quality” products, highlighting the
importance of expanding the presence of Jordanian products in the
Kenyan market. He also underscored the need to identify Kenyan
products and opportunities available to Jordanian importers and
traders.
In turn, Ibrahim Nawaiseh, the chamber’s representative for
construction and building materials, highlighted the importance of
direct meetings between private-sector representatives in identifying
opportunities that can develop into joint businesses and projects.
He referred to the broad scope for cooperation in construction,
building materials, engineering services and contracting, noting that
Jordanian companies have accumulated expertise in these fields that
could support stronger ties with Kenyan firms.
Nawaiseh called for exchanging information on projects, investment
opportunities and tenders to help companies in both countries access
new markets.
Makhamreh underscored the importance of strengthening Jordan’s
economic presence in Kenya and intensifying business contacts between
the two countries. She said the embassy can facilitate communication
between Jordanian and Kenyan companies and follow up on trade and
investment opportunities of mutual interest.
Meanwhile, members of the Kenyan delegation expressed interest in
developing business ties with Jordan’s private sector and benefiting
from Jordanian expertise and products. They said the visit provides
an opportunity to engage directly with Jordan’s business community
and explore potential trade and investment partnerships.
Kenyan companies presented their areas of activity, including trade
facilitation, exhibitions and conferences, trade missions,
agriculture, and exports of tea, flowers and fresh produce. Their
activities also cover meat and livestock, grains and pulses, coffee
and nuts, as well as agricultural logistics, engineering,
contracting, pharmaceuticals, chemicals and cleaning products.
Jordanian business representatives expressed interest in
opportunities in the Kenyan market and cooperation with Kenyan
companies. They stressed the importance of obtaining information on
market needs, regulations and trade procedures to help companies
assess export and import opportunities and establish joint ventures.
Talks also discussed mechanisms to increase business contacts,
encourage trade delegations and missions, promote participation in
specialized exhibitions and economic events, and connect Jordanian
and Kenyan companies according to their sectoral interests.
