“For the first time, we have a Deacon from this community; he is a great blessing to us. Let us now prepare ourselves for his priestly ordination, which we hope will take place in July next year,” Bishop Mark Kadima said.
In his homily, Bishop Kadima underscored the importance of the Holy Spirit in bringing people together and strengthening unity in society.
He challenged the faithful to embrace values that promote peace, unity and development, particularly truth, forgiveness and participation.
“The Holy Spirit brings people together. He brings together people from different tribes, different languages, different talents, and even people facing different challenges, and makes them one in Jesus Christ,” he said at the Holy Mass in which he conferred the Sacrament of Confirmation to 44 candidates.
The Catholic Bishop also reflected on the virtue of truth in his homily, saying society cannot achieve genuine peace, unity, and development where dishonesty and falsehood prevail.
“There can be no genuine unity, peace, or development where there are lies and dishonesty. Truth is very important. Truth brings us peace, unity, and progress. Jesus calls us not only to know the truth but also to witness to one another through the truth,” he said.
Bishop Kadima also cautioned against a culture of negativity in which people focus primarily on the weaknesses and mistakes of others.
He urged Christians to allow the Holy Spirit to help them recognize and appreciate the good in other people.
“Let us learn to recognize and speak about the good that we see in others. Let us encourage one another and proclaim what is good rather than always concentrating on people’s faults,” he said.
