The Fair Wages and Salaries Commissio, FWSC, has expressed shock and sadness about the passing of Executive Secretary of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) Dr Isaac Bampoe Addo. He passed away on Friday, August 21, 2026.
A statement signed by Chief Executive of the Commission, Dr George Smith-Graham said the news is particularly difficult to comprehend because Dr Isaac Bampoe Addo was present and active at its stakeholder engagement on the establishment of the Independent Public Emoluments Commission (IPEC) at the Lancaster Hotel barely a week ago.
It said throughout the engagement, he was his usual vibrant self, passionate, articulate, intellectually engaging and deeply committed to the interests of public servants and the strengthening of Ghana’s public institutions.
The statement said Dr Bampoe Addo participated fully in the discussions and made thoughtful and important contributions to the emerging IPEC framework. The Fair Wages and Salaries Commission said there was nothing about those moments that prepared it for the heartbreaking news that would follow.
The Commission described Dr Bampoe Addo as someone who was more than the Executive Secretary of CLOGSAG. It said he was a formidable voice in Ghana’s labour relations landscape and a committed advocate for fairness and the welfare of workers.
The Commission noted that over the years, their respective institutional responsibilities sometimes required them to sit on opposite sides of the negotiating table, but there was always mutual respect and a shared understanding that social dialogue must ultimately serve the interests of workers, government, and the country.
The Fair Wages and Salaries Commission said Dr Isaac Bampoe Addo’s passing, represents a significant loss not only to CLOGSAG but also to Organised Labour, the public service, the social partnership community, and Ghana as a whole.
The Commission extended its deepest condolences to his family, the leadership and entire membership of CLOGSAG, Organised Labour, his colleagues, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing and working with him.
The statement said as the Commission continues the important national conversation on the future of public-sector compensation and the establishment of IPEC, Dr Isaac Bampoe Addo’s contributions during what turned out to be his final engagement with it will remain part of that journey.
