The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has cautioned prospective students, parents and guardians to verify the accreditation status of tertiary institutions before applying for admission after identifying 49 learning centres and institutions operating without valid accreditation.
The affected institutions comprise 15 public university learning centres that are not accredited and 34 tertiary institutions whose institutional accreditation has expired.
The Commission announced this in a public notice issued on July, 8, 2026, saying the move was aimed at protecting prospective students from enrolling in institutions and learning centres whose accreditation status could affect their academic qualifications.
The unaccredited learning centres include seven University of Ghana centres located in Koforidua, Cape Coast, Tamale, Ho/Tsito, Wa, Bolgatanga and Sunyani.
Others are the University of Education, Winneba Learning Centre at Jayee University College, Accra, the University of Education, Winneba Learning Centre at St Theresa’s College, Anaji-Takoradi, the University for Development Studies learning centres at Wa and Chereponi, Takoradi Technical University’s Akatakyi and Butumagyebi campuses, and Methodist University Ghana’s Tema and Wenchi campuses.
GTEC also published a separate list of 34 tertiary institutions whose institutional accreditation has expired.
They include Abbeam Institute of Technology, SS Peter and Paul Pastoral and Social Institute, Community College, Takoradi, Mumford Institute of Technology, ILMA Institute of Science and Technology, River View College, Synergies Institute, Institute of Local Government Studies, Ohawu College of Agriculture, College of Tropical Agriculture, Animal Health and Production College, Kwadaso Agricultural College, Hopkins Health Training Institute, Manaata School of Midwifery, Western Hills School of Nursing, Oak City International College, Nursing and Midwifery Training College, Asankrangwa, Holy Spirit College of Education, Islamic Nursing Training School, Springs College, Wintech Professional Institute, Trans Africa College, Institute of Business Management and Journalism, Rural Development College, University College of Agriculture and Environmental Studies, School of Anaesthesia, Unique Citizens College, Kings and Queens Medical College, Royal Nursing College, Zenith University College, Jayee University College, Modal College, Nursing and Midwifery Training College, Cape Coast, Archbishop Porter Girls’ Polytechnic and other institutions across the country.
The Commission advised prospective students, parents, guardians and the general public to confirm the accreditation status of institutions, learning centres and academic programmes with GTEC before accepting admission offers.
It warned that enrolling in institutions or learning centres without valid accreditation could lead to the loss of time, money and future career opportunities.
According to the Commission, the notice is intended to protect prospective students and the public by providing accurate information on the accreditation status of tertiary institutions and their learning centres.
