Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng

The Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, has stated that there is no immediate solution to the perennial flooding in the Greater Accra Region, adding that government may not be able to resolve the problem in the short term.

Speaking in a self-made video shared on social media on June 30, 2026, A Plus said the only response government, especially the President, can offer at this time is to fly over the affected areas in a helicopter, observe the damage, and express sadness over the destruction caused by the rains.

He argued that the issue requires an attitudinal change from citizens rather than solely government intervention.

According to him, the flooding situation is likely to recur every year, with the same discussions resurfacing whenever heavy rains occur.

“The truth is simple. Yesterday it rained and the place got flooded. The only thing we can get is for the President to fly in a helicopter, look at it and feel sad. That is all we can get,” he said.

“Then you will get MPs like John Dumelo pretending they can do something, but he cannot do anything. There is not much he can do. The rain we are talking about is just today and tomorrow if the rain stops, that is all. Next year, we will meet here and have the same conversation,” the lawmaker said.

He continued, “You people have a problem and politicians will never solve it,” he asserted.

Heavy rainfall on Monday, June 29, 2026, claimed the lives of at least 12 people and destroyed several properties across Accra.

While the downpour brought grief and devastation to many families, it also produced some unusual and humorous moments that have since gone viral on social media.

Several people were captured engaging in various activities during the rains, with many of the videos circulating online.

🇬🇭 “the truth is only one as I have to speak it. As you saw yesterday, there was flooding. The only thing the President can do for you is fly over in a helicopter, observe the situation, and express sympathy.
