Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, Minister of Health, has convened the leadership of Ghana’s health sector for a two-day retreat in Ada, aimed at maximising productivity and ensuring quality and efficient healthcare delivery across the country.
The retreat, which officially opened on Monday, January 12, 2026, brings together the Chief Director and Directors of the Ministry of Health, board members and chairpersons, heads of agencies, representatives from civil society organizations, and other stakeholders.
Dubbed the “Ministry of Health 2025 Performance Review and Outlook for 2026,” the programme includes comprehensive review sessions on sectoral performance, presentations from directorates and agencies, thematic discussions, and strategic planning for the year ahead.
Participants are expected to evaluate achievements recorded in 2025, identify operational bottlenecks, align sector priorities, and strengthen coordination across institutions.
Presentations are being delivered by various MoH directorates, including Policy, Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation; Human Resource for Health; Infrastructure; Training and Capacity Development; and Technical Assistance and Donor Coordination.
Major hospitals and institutions, such as the Ghana Health Service, National Health Insurance Authority, Food and Drugs Authority, Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, and Tamale Teaching Hospital, are also presenting their performance reports and outlooks.
Regulatory bodies and professional councils, including the Nursing and Midwifery Council, Medical and Dental Council, Allied Health Professions Council, and Pharmacy Council, are providing updates on their regulatory and service delivery mandates.
The 2026 strategic planning segment, led by the Minister, focuses on sector priorities, policy direction, and collaborative actions to accelerate progress toward Universal Health Coverage, improve access to essential services, and strengthen system resilience.
Through the initiative, the Ministry aims to foster high-performance standards, enhance resource efficiency, promote evidence-based decision-making, and strengthen cross-agency collaboration in service delivery. The Ministry reiterated its commitment to building a strong, responsive, and people-centered health system capable of addressing current needs and emerging public health threats.
