Ghanaian music producer-turned-pastor David Kojo Kyei, popularly known as Kaywa, has expressed concern over what he describes as the misuse of the prophetic ministry, urging Christians to understand its primary purpose within the Church.
His comments come amid ongoing public debate over the role of prophecy in national discourse, particularly during election periods and major national events.
Speaking on Channel One TV’s Upside Down Show with Frema Adunyame on Sunday, June 14, 2026, Kaywa said the prophetic ministry was first and foremost intended to edify the body of Christ, rather than serve as a platform for public displays of spiritual authority.
“So you see the prophetic is for the body of Christ. The Bible says that the five-fold ministry was given to the church, but at a certain time, the grace and the gift that’s given to you also can be used to bring people into the saving knowledge of Jesus,” he said.
The award-winning producer, who has transitioned into pastoral ministry, noted that while prophecy can extend beyond the Church and touch on national issues, its core purpose should not be overlooked.
“That notwithstanding, I’m not saying that you cannot prophesy about what’s going to happen in your country, etc., but you need to understand that primarily it’s for the body of Christ. Then other things can follow,” he stated.
Kaywa also cautioned prophets and ministers against communicating prophetic messages in ways that could be perceived as arrogant or disrespectful.
“I mean, God can tell you what’s about to happen, for example, about an election, and others, but there’s a way to always dispense what God has shown you, you see, so you don’t become pompous, disrespectful,” he said.
