Tema, June 12, GNA – Representatives of Ghanaian students at Teesside University, London, have paid a courtesy call on the Executive Mayor of Middlesbrough, Mr Chris Cooke, to discuss youth development, education, and community engagement.
The delegation, led by Mr Barnes Adu Antwi, Mr Ian Okwei, and Mr Ransford Kennedy Gyimah, used the meeting to reaffirm the commitment of Ghanaian students to supporting initiatives aimed at promoting education, entrepreneurship, and community development within the Teesside area.
A statement copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) said the students expressed support for programmes being pursued by the mayor’s office, including youth empowerment initiatives, business development interventions, and educational opportunities designed to enhance the prospects of young people.
Mr Cooke welcomed the delegation and commended Ghanaian students for their contributions to the academic and social life of the community.
He expressed interest in maintaining regular engagements with members of the Ghanaian student community to better understand their experiences and explore ways of strengthening collaboration between the local authority and international students.
The mayor also briefed the delegation on a number of upcoming events and development initiatives within Middlesbrough, including programmes aimed at promoting business growth, innovation, education, and the creative arts.
The student representatives pledged their continued participation in community activities and expressed their willingness to support initiatives that promote cultural exchange, social inclusion, and sustainable development.
They noted that such engagements provided opportunities for international students to contribute meaningfully to their host communities while strengthening people-to-people relations between Ghana and the United Kingdom.
The meeting formed part of efforts by the Ghanaian student community at Teesside University to foster closer collaboration with local authorities and promote the welfare of Ghanaian students studying in the United Kingdom.
