A district court in Assin Fosu has remanded a 40-year-old mason into police custody for one week over his alleged involvement in a robbery attack that left a farmer with multiple cutlass wounds.

Kofi Awuakye appeared before the Assin Fosu District Court, presided over by His Worship Abdul Majid Iliasu, on charges of unlawful entry, unlawful possession and use of an offensive weapon, and causing harm.

The court granted the prosecution’s request to remand the accused to allow police to complete their investigations and ordered that he remain in custody until June 18, 2026.

Prosecutor Matilda Osaah Buabeng told the court that the complainant, Kwabena Atta, a 35-year-old farmer from Assin Fosu, was asleep in his room in the early hours of October 29, 2025, when unusual noises awakened him.

According to the prosecution, Atta found Awuakye allegedly inside the room, ransacking his belongings while armed with a knife.

When the complainant raised an alarm, the accused allegedly attacked him, inflicting multiple cutlass wounds on his right shoulder, back and other parts of his body before fleeing the scene.

The court heard that although residents responded to the distress call and attempted to apprehend the suspect, he managed to escape.

Atta was subsequently issued a Police Medical Report Form, received treatment for his injuries and later submitted the endorsed medical report to assist investigations.

Police said efforts to trace the suspect continued for several months until June 3, 2026, when the complainant reportedly spotted him at the Adiembra Lorry Station in Assin Fosu.

With the assistance of members of the public, Awuakye was arrested and handed over to the police.

During interrogation, the accused denied involvement in the alleged offences. However, police said investigations linked him to the attack, leading to his arrest and arraignment before the court.

The case has been adjourned to June 18, 2026.
