The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC)

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has arrested no fewer than 1,691 traffic offenders within five days of a nationwide special enforcement exercise known as Operation Guduma.

The Corps disclosed that the arrests were made during simultaneous operations conducted across critical transport corridors in 11 states of the federation, targeting dangerous road practices that continue to endanger lives and compromise national security.

According to the FRSC, the operation focused on offences such as vehicle overloading, mix-loading of passengers and goods, the use of fake diplomatic number plates, and other fraudulent vehicle identification violations.

The Corps noted that the enforcement exercise uncovered numerous vehicles operating with dangerously unlatched containers and overloaded cargoes, conditions that significantly increase the risk of fatal road crashes, loss of lives, and economic damage.

Officials said the operation was designed to improve compliance with road safety regulations and curb the activities of motorists whose actions pose serious threats to other road users.

The FRSC expressed concern over the persistent violation of safety standards by some transport operators, stressing that overloading and improper cargo transportation remain major contributors to road accidents across the country.

The Corps reiterated its commitment to sustained enforcement and public enlightenment campaigns aimed at promoting safer highways and reducing road traffic crashes nationwide.

It also warned motorists and transport operators to comply strictly with traffic regulations, emphasizing that offenders would continue to face sanctions as part of efforts to ensure safer roads for all Nigerians.
