Kwabena Boateng is Member of Parliament for Ejisu Kwabena Boateng is Member of Parliament for Ejisu

The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Constituency Chairman for Ejisu, Kofi Ampofo, has rejected rumours that constituency executives are plotting to undermine the Member of Parliament, Lawyer Kwabena Boateng, and frustrate his bid for a second term.

According to Ampofo, no such agenda exists within the party leadership.

According to an adomonline.com report on May 18, 2026, he insisted that while the party remains democratic, it will not block any qualified member who wishes to contest when parliamentary primaries are opened.

Speaking to journalists, the Chairman revealed that the current tensions arose after reports suggested some constituency executives and party members were working against the MP because of his support for Kennedy Agyapong during the NPP’s recent presidential primaries.

Afoko’s ex-headmaster vouches for his integrity, urges NPP unity ahead of 2028

He, however, described these reports as unfounded.

“There is no personal conflict between the constituency executives and the MP,” Ampofo stated.

“All these internal misunderstandings have to do with the ongoing polling station executive elections, which had Ejisu delayed its elections because the MP wanted the voting to be done through open voting and head counting, but we insisted on secret balloting because we believe open voting could create division within the party ahead of the 2028 general elections. That disagreement does not mean we are against him,” he said.

Ampofo noted that party unity remains a top priority for the executives, who are working tirelessly to resolve all differences before the 2028 general elections.

“Even the MP primaries are not yet due, but when the time comes, and some party faithful believe they have the capacity to contest, we will allow them because we are in a democratic dispensation. He should therefore continue to work hard,” he said.

The Second Vice-Chairman of the Ejisu NPP also acknowledged the weakening unity within the party and urged the MP to take deliberate steps to bring all members together.

“The parliamentary seat is not a traditional position reserved for one person, so he should understand that when the primaries are due, there could be competition,” he emphasised.

Meanwhile, some concerned party members have appealed to the Ashanti Regional Executives of the NPP to intervene in the disagreements to help restore unity in the constituency ahead of the 2028 polls.
