The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has confiscated 140 boxes of alcoholic beverages mixed with stimulants in the Upper East Region as part of intensified efforts to safeguard public health.

The seized products included Bel Ice Vodka Energy Drink and Cody’s Vody Energy Mix, both of which have been banned from the Ghanaian market.

According to the FDA, the products were withdrawn because the stimulant content can mask the effects of alcohol intoxication, increasing the risk of excessive consumption and serious health complications.

The Authority explained that combining alcohol with stimulants may cause consumers to underestimate their level of impairment, potentially leading to alcohol poisoning, reckless behaviour and other harmful consequences.

In a public advisory, the FDA urged consumers to avoid purchasing or consuming the products and reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing safety regulations across the country.

“The FDA is working for your safety!” the Authority stated.

The latest seizure forms part of ongoing nationwide surveillance and enforcement operations by the FDA aimed at removing unsafe and unapproved products from the market.
