The Commonwealth Sports Federation Ghana (CSFG) has officially launched the “Ghana House” project ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games scheduled to take place in Glasgow, Scotland.
The launch event was held on Tuesday, May 6, 2026, at the Ange Hill Hotel in East Legon, Accra, bringing together government officials, sports administrators, diplomats, athletes, and stakeholders in Ghana’s sports industry.
Former Minister of Finance, Seth Terkper, who represented Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, performed the official launch ceremony and emphasized the importance of projecting Ghana’s identity beyond sports during the Games.
According to him, Ghana’s participation in Glasgow should not only focus on competition but also serve as an avenue to promote the country’s culture, fashion, food, and tourism potential to the international community.
He urged Team Ghana athletes to remain disciplined and professional while striving to win medals for the country.
Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, described the Ghana House initiative as Ghana’s official hospitality, cultural, and marketing hub for the Commonwealth Games.
He explained that the project is intended to drive support for Ghanaian athletes while also creating opportunities for tourism promotion, investment partnerships, and international diplomacy.
“The Games go beyond medals to business, investment, tourism, and diplomacy. When athletes win, Ghana wins. Let’s place athletes at the center,” he stated.
The Sports Minister further called for strong collaboration between Team Ghana and the Ghana House Committee to ensure the country achieves its objectives at the Games.
He stressed that every sporting discipline deserves equal attention and support, adding that under President John Dramani Mahama’s administration, all sports must thrive within Ghana’s sporting ecosystem while positively projecting the nation’s image.
President of the Commonwealth Sports Federation Ghana and the Ghana Olympic Committee, Richard Akpokavie, expressed confidence that Ghana would return from Glasgow with medals as well as investment and business opportunities.
Chairman of the Ghana House Committee, Hon. Kobi Woyome, briefed the media on the concept behind the initiative and expressed optimism about its impact.
He reiterated that the project would serve as Ghana’s official hospitality and marketing hub during the Games while promoting Ghanaian culture and supporting the athletes.
Chef de Mission for Glasgow 2026, Ernest Danso, assured the public of improved preparation for Team Ghana ahead of the Games.
“As CDM for Ghana, I want us to win more medals and show our presence strongly on the Games platform. We are also focusing on athlete welfare, intensive preparation, and camping before the Games,” he said.
The event was also attended by the Head of Trade and Political Relations at the British High Commission in Ghana, Hooman Nouruzi, who represented the British High Commissioner and praised the strong relationship between Ghana and the United Kingdom.
The 2026 Commonwealth Games is expected to present major business opportunities, with the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council (CWEIC) aiming to strengthen trade and investment ties between Ghana and the UK.
Also present at the launch were the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Maame Efua Houadjeto; Director-General of the National Sports Authority, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah; and several dignitaries from various ministries, agencies, and sports organizations.
The Ghana Sports Supporters Union entertained guests with traditional jama performances during the ceremony.
Team Ghana is expected to compete in 10 sporting disciplines at the Games, including athletics, swimming, 3×3 basketball, track cycling, weightlifting, lawn bowls, gymnastics, netball, and judo.
The 2026 Commonwealth Games will take place in Glasgow, Scotland, from July 23 to August 2, 2026.
