Ghana international Daniel Kofi-Kyereh has set sight on making another World Cup dream come to pass, having successfully completed his rehabilitation following a leg injury.

The attacking midfielder due to a severe anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, he suffered during training with German club SC Freiburg got sidelined for over 3-years. He sustained the injury in February 2023 and was near returning only to be hit with another setback in 2024 during preseason.

Kyereh recently marked his return to football training with the team but making match appearance for Freiburg U23 side. In April this year made three league appearance for the side providing two assists.

The 30-year old despite lacking playing time, has an ambition to play in the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup hence determined to fight his way back to full fitness.

“Yes, I do,” Kyereh told Joy Sports when asked if he wanted to play at the World Cup. “That is another dream and goal I am striving for. I believe in it.”

He however, acknowledged the challenge his ambition brings, therefore focused on regaining top condition in time.

“I need to be honest with myself, but until then, I have some weeks or months to work on getting in the best shape I can be. My aim is that before the World Cup, I can have one or two games where I can play the full minutes available. I believe I can do it and get in shape for the World Cup.”

Kyereh admitted that a possible callup for the summer World Cup will not depend on him alone, stressing that technical and medical decisions will play a key role.

“On the other hand, I need to be honest with myself and see every day how I am feeling because I don’t want to go to the World Cup just to be a part of it or just have it on my CV that I have been to another World Cup if I cannot really help the team or have the impact like before,” he continued.

“At the end of the day, I am not the one who decides. I can just do what I can and leave the rest to the decisionmakers.”

Kyereh, was a key member of Ghana’s team at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. He has 18 caps for the Black Stars since making his debut and has represented Ghana at two major international tournaments.
