Start-ups,Businesses Are Suffering Under Huge Tax Obligation,H.E Mahama Lied His Way Into Power—Osei

According to a Post on Joseph Oppong official facebook account on Tuesday, November 3,2026,Ghanaian political commentator Joseph Oppong has launched a fresh criticism of President John Dramani Mahama’s administration, accusing it of failing to honour its campaign promise to introduce tax exemptions for businesses and entrepreneurs.

In a Facebook post, Oppong recalled that the National Democratic Congress (NDC), while campaigning in opposition ahead of the 2024 general elections, promised to provide tax relief to businesses as part of efforts to stimulate entrepreneurship and economic growth.

However, he argued that almost two years after assuming office, the government had failed to introduce any new tax exemptions. He further alleged that some existing incentives introduced under the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration had also been withdrawn.

According to Oppong, the situation has left start-ups, young entrepreneurs and business owners struggling with significant tax obligations, making it increasingly difficult for emerging businesses to survive and expand.

He did not mince words in expressing his disappointment with the President, accusing Mahama of making promises to secure political power without delivering the expected relief to the business community.

The commentator specifically called on Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson to reconsider the government’s approach to business taxation and introduce targeted exemptions for start-ups and young enterprises.

Oppong argued that emerging businesses require government support during their early stages, stressing that providing tax incentives would give them the opportunity to grow into established companies capable of contributing significantly to national revenue in the future.

He also drew attention to the five-year tax exemption programme for start-ups under the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), which he attributed to the previous Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration.
