US Embassy in Accra opens 2000 visa appointments for Ghanaians

The U.S. Embassy in Accra has opened over 2,000 visa appointment slots over the next two weeks for B1/B2 travellers.

The appointments cater to those planning business trips, visiting family, leisure travel, or attending the 2026 FIFA World Cup, set to be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico this summer.

In a statement shared on its official channels, the Embassy encouraged applicants to take advantage of the newly available slots.

“We have more than 2,000 visa appointment slots available in the next two weeks for B1/B2 travellers — whether you’re planning a business trip, visiting family, general tourism, or wanting to watch the World Cup,” the statement read.

The Embassy also urged those with appointments later in the year to consider rescheduling earlier to accommodate rising demand. B1/B2 visas cover both business and tourism purposes, and applicants are reminded that interviews must be booked through the official visa application portal. Proper preparation of all required documents ahead of the interview is essential.

The announcement comes amid growing excitement for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which has sparked significant interest among Ghanaian football fans. However, the new slots are not exclusive to World Cup attendees and are open to all eligible B1/B2 applicants.

Ghana’s national team, the Black Stars, four-time African champions, will make their fifth World Cup appearance in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia. Their campaign begins against Panama on June 17, followed by matches against England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.

Ahead of the tournament, the Black Stars will regroup in March for friendlies against Austria and Germany, play Mexico in May, and face Wales on June 2 in their final warm-up match. During the World Cup, the team will be based at Bryant University in the United States, aiming to improve on previous group-stage exits in 2014 and 2022.
