As the world marked International Women’s Day 2026 under the theme “Rights. Justice. Action. For All Women and Girls”, the Developing Women for Mobilisation (DWM) organisation used the occasion to pay tribute to its late President, H.E. Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings.

The commemoration served as both a celebration of global female achievement and a solemn reaffirmation of the organisation’s mission to uphold the rights of women and girls, a cause to which the late former First Lady dedicated her life.

Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings was remembered as a pioneer who fundamentally shifted the landscape of gender equality in Ghana. Her advocacy focused on critical areas that continue to form the pillars of DWM’s work:

  • Educational Access: Championing the right of every girl to learn.
  • Economic Empowerment: Creating pathways for women to achieve financial independence.
  • Leadership Development: Amplifying female voices in local and national decision-making.
  • Protection: Advocating for robust legal frameworks to combat gender-based violence.

In a message marking the day, Mrs. Peace Aryee, Director of DWM, noted that the late President’s “unwavering dedication” remains the driving force behind the organisation’s current initiatives.

“Today, as we celebrate the strength and resilience of women everywhere, we also reflect on the powerful legacy left by Her Excellency, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings; her passion and commitment continue to guide our mission,” Mrs. Aryee stated.

While celebrating the strides made in recent years, DWM underscored that the path to true equality requires renewed vigour. The organisation issued a formal call to the government, civil society partners, and local communities to:

  1. Accelerate Progress: Shift from policy dialogue to concrete actions that ensure equal opportunity.
  2. Ensure Representation: Protect and promote the presence of women in all spheres of society.
  3. Uphold Rights: Strengthen the implementation of policies that protect women and girls from discrimination.

The call to action aligns with broader national efforts, such as the Affirmative Action Bill and the establishment of the Women’s Development Bank, which aim to provide the systemic support necessary for female entrepreneurs and leaders to flourish.

As DWM moves forward, the organisation has pledged to honour the memory of Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings by continuing to build a “more just, inclusive, and equitable world.”

By integrating the “Give to Gain” spirit echoed by national leadership, the organisation remains committed to ensuring that the empowerment of Ghanaian women remains a central tenet of national development.
