BREAKING: Nairobi Governor Aspirant Quits Race Ahead of 2027 Polls, Reveals Her Next Move

Businesswoman Agnes Kagure has changed her political plans ahead of the 2027 General Election, abandoning her ambitions for the Nairobi governor’s seat to pursue the top county position in Nyeri.

Kagure, who heads the Kenya Patriots Party (KPP), has now shifted her attention to her home county, where she is preparing to enter the race for governor. Her decision marks a major turn in her political journey after spending years establishing her influence in Nairobi.

The businesswoman has already started signalling her intentions through billboards erected at various locations across Nyeri. The posters carry her name alongside the message ‘Nyeri Governor 2027,’ indicating that she is eyeing the position in the next elections.

The billboards also encourage residents to register as members of her party by dialling *386#, under the slogan ‘Umoja Wa Wakenya.’

Kagure has equally begun reaching out to influential figures in the county as she prepares to build support for her political ambitions.In one of her Facebook updates, she shared details of her meeting with Nyeri-based Bishop Kariuki, describing the engagement as an opportunity to reflect on how she could contribute to the development of her home county.

She appreciated the bishop for his guidance and indicated that she would continue seeking wisdom through prayer as she considers her next steps.

On Saturday, October 31, Kagure visited Mukurweini during the first phase of her planned tour across the county. She held meetings with Deputy Governor David Kinaniri, MP John Kaguchia, senior chief Wanjau, and MCA Wakabaire.

She expressed gratitude for the warm reception, noting that the leaders were pleased to see her return to her roots.

Meanwhile, a source from her political camp disclosed that her decision to shift from Nairobi was influenced by growing calls from religious leaders, professionals, and young people in Nyeri who wanted her to seek the governor’s position.Her decision comes as the contest for Nairobi governor continues to attract several aspirants ahead of the 2027 polls.

With campaign billboards already in place and engagements with local leaders underway, Kagure has begun positioning herself for what could become a new political battle in Nyeri County.
