What Unknown Man Told ODM Supporters After Grabbing Microphone at Jacaranda as Meeting Ends Abruptly
Fresh details have emerged from the dramatic incident that disrupted the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) rally at Nairobi’s Jacaranda Grounds on Saturday after an unknown man grabbed a microphone and delivered a brief message that caught supporters by surprise.
The incident happened as party leaders were being introduced during the final day of Mwezi wa Baba celebrations, bringing together thousands of ODM supporters and several prominent political figures.
Proceedings were interrupted when unfamiliar individuals made their way onto the stage and took control of the microphone, leaving leaders and attendees confused about what was unfolding.
One of the individuals was heard telling the crowd, “Msitoroke,” as the situation continued to develop.
The Kiswahili statement, which translates to “Do not run away”, came at a moment when confusion had already spread across the grounds, with some supporters and leaders scrambling to move away from the stage.
The unexpected takeover disrupted the programme and heightened uncertainty among those attending the gathering. The situation eventually forced the ODM meeting to end abruptly before the scheduled proceedings could be completed.
The rally had attracted senior political figures, including Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi, Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed and Kisii Governor Simba Arati.
The gathering was organised to mark the conclusion of Mwezi wa Baba, a month-long commemoration in honour of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
The disruption overshadowed the political speeches and activities that had brought supporters to Jacaranda, with attention shifting to the unfamiliar individuals who had taken over the stage.
The circumstances surrounding their appearance, their identities and the reasons behind the interruption were not immediately established.
The incident also raised questions about security arrangements at the venue, considering the number of senior political leaders who had attended the gathering.
