Bad News for Ruto as ODM Changes Its Tone and Declares This During Today’s Jacaranda Rally
Suna East MP Junet Mohamed has sent a strong message to President William Ruto, insisting that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) will not offer its political support for free as the country moves closer to the 2027 General Election.
In remarks directed at the Head of State, Junet declared that ODM must be respected and recognised as an important partner in the broad-based government.
“RUTO, hakuna cha bure hapa kwa ODM,” Junet said.
His statement comes at a time when the relationship between ODM and President Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) is attracting fresh attention, with leaders from both sides expressing different views about the partnership.
Several ODM politicians have recently called for a formal agreement to guide the relationship between the two parties ahead of the next general election.
They want clear terms on power sharing, government positions and the implementation of commitments made during earlier engagements.
Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga has been among those pushing for a 50-50 arrangement, including equal representation in Cabinet and a Deputy President position for ODM if UDA provides the presidential candidate.
However, government officials have also questioned the need for a written agreement, arguing that political cooperation should be built on trust.
The debate has exposed differences within ODM, with some leaders supporting continued cooperation with Ruto while others want the party to reconsider its political direction.
Junet’s latest remarks also come as ODM prepares for its major Nairobi rally at Jacaranda Grounds on Saturday, October 31.
The gathering is taking place against the backdrop of growing competition from the Linda Mwananchi movement associated with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino.
With the 2027 elections approaching, ODM leaders are under pressure to protect the party’s influence while deciding the terms of their relationship with Ruto’s administration.
Will President Ruto agree to ODM’s demands before the next election?
