Oburu’s Jacaranda Move: Why the ODM Leader Will Address Thousands From His Nairobi Home

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Oburu Oginga is expected to address party supporters at Jacaranda Grounds in Nairobi through a live link from his Nairobi home on Saturday, October 31, 2026, as the party concludes its Mwezi wa Baba commemorations in honour of his late brother, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

The arrangement will allow the veteran politician to communicate with supporters gathered at the rally without physically attending the event, as he continues his recovery following his recent hospitalisation.

The Jacaranda gathering is the culmination of activities organised by ODM throughout October to commemorate Raila’s political legacy and reconnect with supporters across the country.

The choice of venue carries political significance. Jacaranda Grounds has hosted major political gatherings in Nairobi, including a recent rally organised by the Linda Mwananchi Movement associated with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and other leaders.

ODM’s decision to hold its own rally at the same venue comes amid competing efforts to mobilise supporters and demonstrate political influence in the capital ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Oburu’s expected address also comes as ODM leaders continue discussions about the party’s political direction and its engagement with President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

The party has faced differing views among its members over the terms of cooperation with UDA, including calls for a written agreement to guide any future political arrangement.

The rally is therefore expected to provide an opportunity for the party leadership to communicate its position to supporters as it seeks to maintain its political influence.

Will ODM’s Jacaranda rally strengthen the party’s position in Nairobi ahead of the 2027 elections?
