“Kalonzo Is a National Elder”: Gladys Wanga Condemns Heckling of Wiper Leader at Sifuna Event

Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga has reacted to the heckling of Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka during the Linda Mwananchi Movement event associated with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna.

Wanga expressed disappointment over the treatment Kalonzo received, arguing that the former Vice President is a respected national leader who deserves dignity regardless of political differences.

In her remarks, the governor described Kalonzo as a national elder, questioning why he was subjected to such treatment at an event where opposition leaders had gathered.

“Kalonzo Musyoka ni mzee wa Taifa, amefanyiwa madharau pale kwa Sifuna,” Wanga said, expressing her displeasure over the incident.

The heckling incident has attracted attention within opposition political circles, particularly because Kalonzo is among the senior leaders associated with efforts to bring opposition figures together ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The Linda Mwananchi gathering was expected to provide an opportunity for leaders and supporters to demonstrate unity. However, the reception given to some leaders has raised questions about the movement’s ability to accommodate different political interests.

Wanga’s remarks add to the growing discussion about respect, leadership and political tolerance within the opposition. Her position suggests that disagreements should not translate into public humiliation, especially when dealing with leaders who have played significant roles in the country’s political history.

The incident also places the spotlight on Sifuna and the organisers of the event, with questions emerging over how political leaders and their supporters should treat one another during opposition gatherings.
