Richard Onyonka Joins Sifuna’s Inner Circle as Linda Mwananchi Unveils Top Leadership Team

Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka has secured a major position in Edwin Sifuna’s Linda Mwananchi Party after being nominated as the outfit’s National Treasurer during the unveiling of its proposed leadership team in Nairobi.

Onyonka was named for the position on Friday, October 30, as Sifuna officially unveiled the party’s headquarters in Lavington and announced a team expected to oversee its political activities ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The Kisii senator will be responsible for managing the party’s finances if his nomination is approved by delegates during the National Delegates Convention scheduled for November 13. He will be deputised by Abigail Gikonyo.

His appointment comes despite his earlier association with former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, whose presidential ambitions he strongly supported in 2025.

In January that year, Onyonka publicly declared that the Abagusii community would rally behind Matiang’i in his quest for the presidency.

He later defended the former CS’s presidential campaign, arguing that political differences should not prevent leaders from supporting a common candidate.

However, Onyonka has since openly aligned himself with Sifuna’s political ambitions.

During a Linda Mwananchi rally in Taita Taveta in July 2026, he described Sifuna as his leader and declared that he would support his presidential bid.

The nomination places Onyonka among several prominent politicians selected for positions in the new party’s proposed national structure.

Sifuna has been proposed as party leader, with former Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza, Mavoko MP Patrick Makau and former Law Society of Kenya President Faith Odhiambo among those lined up for deputy party leader positions.

Suba South MP Caroli Omondi has been proposed as Secretary-General, deputised by Pauline Njoroge, while Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi has been nominated as national chairperson.

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has also been assigned responsibility for coordinating Sifuna’s presidential campaign.

The proposed appointments will be presented to delegates for consideration as Linda Mwananchi moves to establish political structures across the country.
