Bad News for Kalonzo as Unexpected Report Emerges Days After Welcoming Ruto to Ukambani

Fresh concerns have emerged over Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s position in the opposition as political leaders continue negotiating who will face President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election.

Mwala MP Vincent Musyoka, popularly known as Kawaya, has warned that Kalonzo could be sidelined by his political partners after months of negotiations.

“Kalonzo is being delayed. They will keep delaying him until the last minute, then they will sideline him,” Kawaya said.

His remarks come at a time when opposition leaders are struggling to agree on when and how to select their joint presidential candidate.

On October 26, Kalonzo held a meeting with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua at his Wamunyoro residence in Nyeri County. The meeting focused on strengthening their political cooperation ahead of the 2027 polls.

However, reports have revealed differences between the two camps over the timing of announcing the opposition flagbearer.

Kalonzo’s allies reportedly want the candidate named by December to allow enough time for nationwide campaigns and mobilisation. Gachagua’s camp, on the other hand, wants more time for consultations, with some allies preferring a decision closer to the election.

The disagreement has raised questions about whether all opposition leaders will support whoever eventually gets the presidential ticket.

Kawaya has also been urging Kalonzo to consider working with President Ruto, arguing that the opposition could fail to honour its political promises to the Wiper leader.

The remarks come days after Ruto publicly invited Kalonzo to join his government, while questioning whether the opposition would support his presidential ambitions.

Kalonzo, however, has maintained his opposition position as he continues engaging other political leaders.

With Sifuna, Gachagua, Kalonzo and other figures positioning themselves for 2027, the battle for the opposition ticket is becoming increasingly complicated.

Will Kalonzo eventually secure the presidential ticket, or could he be pushed aside?
