Njogu has attracted significant attention online because of her unique appearance, particularly her facial hair, with many netizens often questioning her about it.
What did Ann Njogu say about her facial hair?
Speaking during a recent interview on Inooro FM with popular radio host Joy wa Macharia, Njogu shared her experience and the difficulties she has faced over the years.
According to her, the issue worsened after she noticed a few small hairs on her face and decided to shave them using a razor. She explained that the move made the situation worse, as the hairs grew back thicker.

She said that what initially started as a single hair later multiplied.
Njogu noted that the condition has led to discrimination, with some people even questioning her gender because of her appearance.
In remarks translated from Kikuyu, she explained that such reactions sometimes make her withdraw from social interactions.
“People are not used to meeting someone who looks like this, so you will hear them saying someone’s daughter looks like a man or that she has a beard. That can make you want to isolate yourself and avoid being around people.”
She continued:
“You find yourself wanting to stay alone most of the time because you start fearing people, yet that is not your real character. You may have been a very social person before, but when people hurt you intentionally or unintentionally, you begin to withdraw,” she said, adding that some even gossip about her family.

Despite the criticism from strangers, Njogu said her family has always supported her and never discriminated against her because of her condition.

She also recalled a painful experience during a hospital visit when she had gone to seek treatment for severe abdominal pain.
According to her, she left the hospital without receiving help after a gynaecologist allegedly questioned her gender.
“I had to leave even though I was in pain because I was still battling this issue mentally, and hearing such remarks made it even harder,” she said.
Njogu added that she has since learned to cope by ignoring negative comments and focusing on her well-being.
She also advised women to avoid shaving small facial hairs using razors, warning that doing so may worsen the situation.
