Duale Warns Sifuna of Political Crash Ahead of 2027 Elections

Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has warned Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna that his political ambitions could lead to his downfall, questioning his experience, financial strength and ability to win support across the country.

Speaking on Citizen TV’s Sunday Live programme on October 25, 2026, Duale criticised Sifuna over his reported interest in contesting the 2027 presidential election.

The Health CS compared the senator’s political journey to a vehicle moving at dangerous speed, warning that he could face serious political problems if he continued pursuing the presidency without building a strong political foundation.

“Senator Sifuna is driving on Thika Super Highway or the Expressway at a high speed and is going to crash very soon, politically,” Duale said during the interview with journalist Jeff Koinange.

Duale argued that Sifuna was moving too quickly in his political career and needed more experience before seeking the country’s highest office.

He also questioned whether the senator had enough money and political connections to organise a successful presidential campaign.

The Cabinet Secretary claimed that Sifuna would struggle to bring together leaders from Western Kenya for political meetings, arguing that such engagements require money and strong networks.

Duale further questioned the senator’s electoral history, claiming that he had lost twice in Bungoma before becoming a senator in Nairobi.

He attributed Sifuna’s political success to the influence of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and support from the Luo community.

The CS argued that the senator would need to demonstrate that he could attract voters from different communities if he hoped to compete successfully in a nationwide presidential election. These remarks reflected Duale’s assessment of Sifuna’s political strength and should not be taken as an established prediction of the election outcome.

Duale also questioned why Sifuna would pursue the presidency before completing his current term in the Senate.

He maintained that Kenyan leaders who eventually became president had spent years gaining political experience and building support before reaching the top office.

However, Sifuna has expressed confidence in his ability to win nationwide support, despite concerns raised by his political opponents about his age, experience and financial capacity.

The exchange comes as political leaders begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election, with presidential ambitions and possible alliances attracting increasing public attention.

Whether Sifuna will formally enter the presidential race and how much support he can attract across the country remain key questions as the next election approaches.
