Meet MP Muchangi Karemba as He Dumps UDA, Says Embu Residents Reject Ruto’s Wheelbarrow Politics
MP Muchangi Karemba Announces Plans to Leave UDA, Says He Will Return Ruto’s Wheelbarrow
Embu County politics has taken a new turn after MP Muchangi Karemba declared that he would no longer remain in the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), signalling his intention to find another political party ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking at Gikuuri, Karemba openly expressed his dissatisfaction with UDA, declaring that he was searching for a new political home. He also made pointed remarks about President William Ruto’s famous wheelbarrow symbol, which has been associated with the president’s political movement and his empowerment message targeting ordinary Kenyans.
“Nitasimama na chama ya UDA? Natafuta chama, nitarudishia Ruto wheelbarrow yake. Embu watu hawataki wheelbarrow,” Karemba said, suggesting that he believes the wheelbarrow message no longer resonates with voters in Embu.
His remarks could signal growing political realignments in the region as leaders begin positioning themselves for the next general election. Embu County remains an important political battleground in the Mount Kenya East region, where leaders are expected to compete for influence among voters.
Karemba made the declaration while addressing residents at Gikuuri in the company of Embu political figures, including Hon. Gitonga Mukunji, whom he referred to as an incoming governor, alongside Newton Karish and Steve Simba.
The gathering provided a platform for the leaders to engage with residents and communicate their political positions as the country gradually moves towards the 2027 elections.
Karemba’s decision to announce his intention to leave UDA publicly could raise questions about the party’s support among some leaders in Embu and the wider Mount Kenya region. However, it remains unclear which political party he intends to join or whether he has begun formal negotiations with another political outfit.
His remarks about returning the wheelbarrow also introduce a direct challenge to the political messaging associated with Ruto’s rise to power.
As political activity intensifies, Karemba’s next move will be closely watched by residents and political observers seeking to understand how shifting alliances could shape Embu’s political future.
