Ibrahim Mahama Receives Praises From Another Top NPP Guru

Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional Communications Director Paul Yandoh has commended Ghanaian businessman Ibrahim Mahama for development initiatives in Damang, saying ongoing road construction is helping demonstrate the potential benefits of mining to host communities.

Mr Yandoh reportedly made the remarks after travelling through several communities on his way to Akwatia in the Eastern Region, where he attended a funeral. During the journey, he passed through Damang in the Western Region and observed road construction works he attributed to Mr Mahama.

According to a report published by GhanaWeb on Saturday, October 24, 2026, Mr Yandoh said the visible infrastructure development had convinced him that residents were beginning to benefit from mining activities in the area.

He stressed that communities endowed with valuable natural resources should experience tangible improvements in their living conditions, rather than merely witness the extraction of minerals from their land.

Mr Yandoh described the ongoing works as an encouraging sign of development, arguing that the impact of mining should be measured by the positive changes it brings to people’s everyday lives.

He also referred to arguments previously made by former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia regarding the need for improvements in Ghana’s economic indicators to translate into better living standards for ordinary citizens.

According to Mr Yandoh, economic progress becomes meaningful when its benefits reach people across the country, particularly those in communities that contribute to national wealth through their natural resources.

He urged those involved in the Damang development projects to sustain their efforts, noting that continued investment in infrastructure could help address some of the challenges confronting residents.

The former NPP regional communications director further called on mining companies and other beneficiaries of the extractive industry to invest in the communities where they operate.

He maintained that it was undesirable for resource-rich communities to remain underdeveloped while minerals extracted from their territories generated wealth.

Mr Yandoh’s comments come months after Engineers and Planners Limited, headed by Ibrahim Mahama, assumed operations at the Damang Gold Mine in April 2026 following a competitive bidding process supervised by the Minerals Commission.

At the handover ceremony, Mr Mahama outlined plans for infrastructure development around the mining area, including a proposed airport and improved road connections.

The projects have since drawn attention to the role mining companies can play in supporting local development, although communities continue to expect further improvements in employment opportunities and other essential services.

Mr Yandoh’s remarks add to the ongoing public discussion about how Ghana can ensure that communities hosting mining operations receive meaningful and lasting benefits from the country’s mineral wealth.
