NDC Speaks on Asiedu Nketiah’s Decision Not to Seek Re-Election as Chairman, Reveals Next Move

According to a report by TV3 Ghana on Saturday, October 24, 2026, Hamza Suhuyini, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications Team, has stated that the party is taking steps to fill the leadership vacuum created by Johnson Asiedu Nketiah’s decision not to seek re-election as National Chairman.

The development comes as the governing party prepares for a leadership transition following Asiedu Nketiah’s decision to step aside from the chairmanship position after his current tenure. His decision has raised questions about who will take over the leadership of the party and guide its activities in the coming years.

Speaking on the issue, Hamza Suhuyini indicated that the NDC was doing everything possible to ensure that the leadership gap would be addressed. His comments suggest that the party is taking the matter seriously and working towards a smooth transition.

Asiedu Nketiah, popularly known as General Mosquito, has been an influential figure within the NDC for several years. He previously served as the party’s General Secretary before becoming National Chairman. During his time in the party, he played a major role in its organisational activities and political campaigns.

His decision not to seek re-election is therefore an important development for the NDC, particularly as the party seeks to maintain its internal unity and strengthen its political structures.

The selection of a successor will be important in determining the party’s future direction. The next chairman is expected to work with other party executives to coordinate activities, maintain unity among members and support the party’s political agenda.

For now, the NDC’s immediate priority is to ensure that the transition does not create uncertainty within its ranks. Suhuyini’s remarks indicate that the party is working to address the situation and prepare for the next phase of its leadership.

Further developments are expected as the party continues its internal discussions on the way forward.
