He Didn’t Just Talk, He Paid – Old Tafo MP Drops ₵10,000 For Black Challenge Ahead of World Cup

The Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, has put his money where his mouth is.

The MP has donated GH₵10,000 to Ghana’s national amputee football team, the Black Challenge, to support their preparations for the 2026 WAFF Amputee Football World Cup in Mexico.

Mr. Assafuah made the donation when he visited the team at their hotel in Achimota, Accra. He did not come empty-handed. Apart from the cash, he also presented cartons of water to the players and technical team to keep them going.

The Black Challenge are getting ready for the biggest stage. The World Cup will be held from November 13 to 22, 2026 in San Juan de los Lagos, Mexico, with 24 countries taking part. Ghana has been drawn in Group D alongside Angola, Colombia and Iraq.

The team has made Ghana proud before. They are two-time African champions after winning the 2024 African Amputee Football Cup of Nations in Egypt and they also won gold at the African Para Games.

But despite their success, the team has often struggled for support and funding.

That is why Assafuah’s donation has been welcomed by many Ghanaians. As Ranking Member on the Youth and Sports Committee, he said he understands what the players need – not just praise on social media, but real support to boost their morale.

His gesture adds to other donations, including $10,000 previously given by President John Mahama after their AFCON victory.

Ghanaians are now calling on government, corporate bodies and other MPs to also support the Black Challenge as they prepare to raise the flag of Ghana high in Mexico.
