This comes after a recent video of her went viral, leaving many questioning her well-being.

Why are Kenyans concerned about Mary Atieno?

The Adamu na Eva hitmaker recently ministered at a crusade organised by one of the leading churches.

After being invited to the stage, she delivered an energetic praise and worship performance, much to the delight of attendees and social media users alike.

Mary appeared dressed in a black hoodie, a below-the-knee dress, and simple black boots. While she was fully immersed in her performance and those accompanying her matched her energy, some viewers focused on her attire rather than her music.

Mary, who is visually impaired, has previously sparked positive reactions for her fashion, including when she dazzled in a kitenge dress at a public event.

Unlike her earlier appearances, this time her outfit drew criticism rather than admiration.

Mary is married to Bishop Alex Ominde, and they are blessed with two daughters and a son.

Benard Akifuma:

“And other dancers and congregants in very smart official attires were dancing happily. This is one of the singers who has done much in our gospel industry. I think there’s something wrong with our churches, they don’t mind about others. Huyu angekua ndiye pastor/ress wa hilo kanisa wangekua wamenunulia yeye hadi gari. Mungu tusameheeee!”

Nancy Lamai:

“I don’t think she doesn’t have good clothes in her closet, the problem might be the person dressing her whenever she leaves the house. May the person improve.”

Siyule Wajana:

“True, recently she was at Webuye in a church performing and silently I started questioning her dressing through those who are behind her, aki can you make minister of God smarter than even you? Be honest to her that she is smart in the absence of her blindness, plis plis present her well, she is a minister, be fair.”

What did Mary Atieno say to gospel musicians?

In another story, Mary commented that many contemporary gospel artistes focus more on social issues than on scripture-based messages.

She also highlighted that gospel songs from earlier generations followed a distinct pattern, different from secular music, unlike many of today’s songs.

Mary began her singing career in 1979 after God miraculously healed her from a heart condition that doctors struggled to diagnose.
